Knowing Your Personality and Motivation Types

By: Darren Williger

Motivation is that which changes people from ordinary men to leaders. Personality also plays a role in all this as well. Two main kinds of personality exist and they affect motivation as well:

  1. The type of person you are: This implies whether you possess a weak personality or a strong one.
  2. Our image perceived by another person: This aspect focuses on your mental as well as physical attributes.

If you assess the world around you, you will see a great number of people who show a lack of motivation in their lives due to the fact that they have a subdued personality. People who are the most affected by this are those who tend to feel that they possess a personality which makes them feel like outcasts or inferior to other people.

Some examples of this are obese people, people who suffer from depression, people who easily give in to defeat, people with low IQ's and those who give in to tests, interviews or examinations and are prone to suicide. These are very weak aspects of personality where the issue of motivation can play a huge role.

Motivation can be derived from external sources like:

  1. News: Tom Whittaker used prosthetic legs to climb Mt. Everest. The fact that he was able to do this is enough motivation to people. If he could do it, so can anybody else. The level of motivation which is derived from this fact and the idea of whether it can provide you with the level of positive change that you require, will depend on how strong willed you are. The right motivation can help you overcome the toughest of physical and mental problems.
  2. Stories: We all grow up hearing stories. A number of these stories tend to remain with us and sometimes we remember and relate to them whenever we find ourselves in situations where the best or worst is required from us. This has a lot to do with psychology. Stories about sacrifice, generosity, conquests, love, and death can bring tears to the eyes but also stir the soul and can become a source of motivation. Such motivation will also help in becoming a much stronger person and having a stronger personality.

Motivation can come from a number of internal sources such as an event. In a person's life, you can go through a number of events which tend to reflect the different high points and low points of life. The way you take each situation and the lessons you learn from it will help you determine if you are able to motivate yourself or not. Two personality types exist and their results differ as well:

  1. Ambitious: These sorts of people are born with a constant drive to succeed and they will work relentlessly in order to achieve certain particular goals. Failure tends to have value for them but only as a source of motivation and a force to steer them towards achieving their dreams and a future.
  2. Casual: For such people it's all about the moment, a single low can adversely affect them. They go through failures but fail to learn from them. They have the power to motivate themselves and attain great heights but they have a lackadaisical attitude which gets the better of them.
