Work Motivations - Motivation for Career and Business Success
By: Darren Williger
The world we currently live in is plagued by intense levels of competition and similar stress levels as well. In such situations even the slightest mistakes tend to adversely affect your growth and your superiors may be displeased by such events. Over the long term it tends to be a destructive influence which slowly and steadily decimates the workplace thereby leading to a fall in productivity which then translates into losses.
Work motivation is rather important because it also tends to determine the rate of employee retention. What competition means is that a lot of organizations tend to contest for space and somewhere along the line, organizations will forget about those who are prone to demotivation. If a competitor pays better than an employee may also be tempted to leave an organization but if you provide the right motivating environment then employees will think twice and usually reject the better financial salary package.
Motivation is very important in work for a number of different reasons. It tends to boost the levels of confidence of employees and energizes them into taking the next steps. Why should someone want to work for more than eight hours a day with a terrible salary and an equally terrible work environment? People can only work if they are motivated enough or they will reach a point where they can do no more which ends up affecting productivity levels.
A number of different ways exist through which an employee or individual may be motivated in specific work environments and these include:
Giving employees extra coffee breaks and appreciating them for the hard work that they do. Also being constantly generous with your compliments and not going overboard will also help. This will make them feel good and boost their confidence as well as motivate them to do better.
Group meetings also play a large role as they usually tend to help people open up. A number of employees may be able to provide great solutions to difficult problems but are too shy to do so. You may ask them to share their views in group meetings and appreciate them publicly for doing so. Being appreciated in public is a welcome feeling.
Managers should always be accessible to their team and take care of the fact that their team is always motivated. Managers have powers using which they can provide incentives for high performers, take the team out for a weekend holiday and do activities that will keep the team together and provide a motivating environment.
Different employees have different rates of learning and therefore it is rather important that they shouldn't be rushed or pressurized. Rather the best thing to do would be to provide an individual with a task which is based on their qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience.
Someone may be from an accounting background but effective in communication, you can then transfer this individual according instead of giving them financial functions. This way you will get better productivity and the employee will feel motivated from doing something which comes as natural to them.
