You may not have realized it but you’ve seen them before. They’re the types who always seem to be on top of the world and everything in it. These people are people with high self-esteem and they are characterized by a gung-ho attitude and the willingness to try new things and the ability to cope with anything life hands them. Self-esteem is powerful and ultimately it provides you with the strength and the bravery to do what you have to do and believe in yourself. A lot of people have a lot of potential but the lack of self-esteem can hamper their ability to make the right choices and do what they have to do to succeed now and in the future.

Regardless of if you’re perpetually down and suffering from low self-esteem or if you need a slight increment in the current level of self-esteem you currently have, you can raise your self-esteem easily. With some minimal level of practice and the right frame of mind you can easily get the required increase in self-esteem and feel better about yourself. Some of these bits of advice will easily help you on your way:

Get Real. Some things can be changed and some other things can’t. If it’s something that you can change then change it but if you’re short, you’re short, if you’re tall, you’re tall. Live with the situation and understand your qualities and how to make the most of them.

Do Something New. Try out new things; it shouldn’t necessarily be trying to climb Mt. Everest. Do something out of your normal and ordinary way of life and get some excitement and self-confidence in achieving something new.

Think Before You Talk. Anything you say to yourself and to other people should be positive. Try being nicer to yourself and stop acting as if every single thing that happens is your fault and as if you’re a failure. You can also pass this attitude to people around you as well, making others feel good does the same for you too.

Focus On the Positive. Be positive always and make sure you’re always around people who have a positive influence. You should focus on aspects of your life that are positive and which provide a positive outlook on life. People who always bring you down aren’t people you should be around. If you start hanging with the positive crowd you’ll see the reflection in your life.

Organize Your Life. Anything messy or cluttered can disturb your thoughts and the progress of your life. Some of these messy things are especially related to your living and working environment. Get rid of these messy influences and start living for a better future.

Smile More. When you smile you feel a whole lot better and your spirits get lifted higher. It also brings others closer to you and ultimately this can make you a whole lot more positive and raise your self-esteem.

Work On Your Look. If you want to feel like someone different then you should try and re-create yourself. Start out with different things such as new hairstyles and new clothing. Shed your old self as if you’re shedding old skin and become an improved and better you.

Low self-esteem can occur at any point in a person’s life. Some people who are especially susceptible to such feelings are usually teenagers who are influenced to a large extent by what other people think about them. Other categories of people can be affected by such issues as well such as new mothers who are entering a different phase of their lives that they weren’t really aware of or haven’t experienced before.

If you want to know whether people or anyone close to you is currently suffering from low self-esteem, you can look at any of these signs to determine is the signs are typical of the person in question:

Lack of Satisfaction. For people with low self esteem, the grass is always greener on the other side. These sorts of people are never satisfied with any aspect of their lives whether this aspect is their family or their car, these people constantly want more with the feeling that something bigger will give them the joy they desire.

Apprehension of the Unknown. People who have low self-esteem are often afraid to try new things. Their fear of the unknown prevents them from doing what they really want to do and achieving their full potential.

Staying in the Past. Low self-esteem sufferers are constantly unable to focus on the “here and now” they spend a huge amount of time bothering about the future and thinking about their past mistakes. These people often fail to enjoy the current joys that life provides them with.

Self Dissatisfaction. Such people often fail to be comfortable with themselves; these people constantly focus on the negative and focus on losses instead of successes. They constantly neglect themselves or focus too much on their appearance because they lack the belief in their looks.

Acceptance of Imperfections. These people are constantly unable to accept the fact that they’re not perfect. They strive for perfection at all times and become increasingly distraught when they fail to achieve the superficial standards of perfection they set for themselves. These people are also over sensitive and worry about criticism at all times.

Lack of Intimacy. These people can’t be really intimate with other people and find it hard and impossible to be intimate with friends, family and other people. The relationships they have tend to be surface level at best.

Busy Bees. Busy people don’t have the chance to look at their fundamental problems and issues, so people with self-esteem issues often hide their real feelings and issues by appearing to be constantly busy.

Low self-esteem can be something you suffer from on a daily basis and these surefire steps are ways of getting rid of your low self-esteem and getting a boost before you start the day’s work:

Lighten Up. You can lighten up by smiling, not only does it make you look a whole lot better it also makes you more attractive to those around you.

Compliment People. By passing around compliments you get to feel a whole lot better and the same goes for you as well. A positive attitude has its way of getting around.

Good Music. Forget the mournful tunes, play some good music in the morning before you get off to work for the day.

Display Affection. By giving off affection in little doses you ensure that you get a little something back as well and ultimately you feel a little better with yourself.

Pep Talk. Complimenting yourself and looking at things that seem positive about you in the morning is a great way to kick-start your day. Look for things that are positive about yourself such as your hair and compliment yourself out loud.

Power Dressing. If you dress in the right way and in a manner that commands the required attention and respect from those around you, it gives you a sense of power. The power that you feel imbued with will make you achieve better things in the long run and feel great about yourself.

Say No to Something. Say No to something you really don’t want to be doing and make sure you do this at least two times before you go off for your lunch break. Anything you say no to must be something that you really don’t want to do. Avoid temptation and revel in your self-confidence.

Do Something New. Every new day brings an opportunity for you to do something new, that you have possibly never done before. Eat something you haven’t eaten before. The courage to try out new things will boost your self-confidence later on.

Self-esteem governs your train of thought and your interactions with other people on a daily basis. By takings some time out to do some or all of the things listed above everyday you will increase the level of your self-esteem and self-confidence and start each day on a positive note. With so much energy around you and people getting a boost from your attitude, you can be sure you’ll feel more important and happier in the presence of people around you.

Having a great sense of self-esteem is a critical factor and a necessary component of success and is important in being able to help us handle the daily rigors of modern day life. With a great sense of self-esteem we can make the right choices in different aspects of our lives as well as our careers.

Doubt is one factor which leads to low self-esteem which can affect our abilities to succeed in the long run. If you want to know if you or other people close to you have started exhibiting any signs of low self-esteem you should take a careful look for any of the following symptoms:

Apprehension of any changes in life or any new experiences.

Need for perfection in everything and need to appear perfect to everyone they meet.

Always apologetic about everything they do whether it’s really their fault or not.

Talking negatively about themselves. People with low self-esteem are always putting themselves down by making unnecessary and negative statements.

Shows symptoms of addiction. People with low self-esteem tend to get affected by negative addictive behavior and this addiction may be to substances or harmful habits.

Lack of individuality. People with such behavior show a complete lack of self-belief and often choose to follow others blindly instead of seeking their own paths.

Unhappiness with their current status. Such people are always unhappy with what they have no matter how perfect their lives are. They fail to appreciate what they have with them and are always looking for more.

Put down behavior. People with low self-esteem often criticize others frequently in a bid to look better to people and feel better about whom they are.

People suffering from low self-esteem frequently lack energy to do anything else and find the smallest and simplest of chores inundating.

Over exaggeration of failures and problems in their lives.

Constantly feel hopeless and distraught about issues that they shouldn’t.

Tend to either neglect their appearances a great deal or focus too much on preening themselves constantly.

Never like to own up when they are wrong.

Constantly think about past mistakes instead of focusing on the present.

Always complaining about non existent physical symptoms.

Find it difficult to resolve simple issues without involving other people.

If you see these signs in yourself or in other people it makes it easier to understand that you suffer from self-esteem. It is then up to you to find ways to help yourself or the other individual get the necessary courage to take care of their lives as well as their feelings.

If you’ve taken the time to look at a couple of people who are successful, you usually tend to see that they are brimming with self-confidence in the way they think about themselves and what they can achieve. In order to see yourself for who you truly are and what you can achieve you need to exhibit a strong sense of self-esteem. People who fail to do so often end up failing to succeed and being stepped on by other people in the workplace. Bold, self-confident people exhibit the necessary authority and command the respect people who are entrusted with responsibility require. People with low self-esteem may have the necessary qualifications to be the ones in charge but their lack of self-confidence deprives them of the chance for others to see them for who they really are.

People who have problems in areas of career advancement might want to take a critical look at themselves and the self-esteem they currently have. Low self-esteem may be the factor that is standing in the way of their success in the area of career advancement by preventing others from seeing the level of potential these individuals are imbued with. Take a look at these factors and see how they affect your career.

No Self Control.

Without the ability to control yourself and your abilities you’ll find it hard to get other people to do the necessary things that they need to. People with bigger job descriptions tend to have the leadership ability and the self-control to motivate others to do what they have to.

No Energy.

Low self-esteem is often characterized by an individual’s lack of energy to do the tasks assigned to them. People who tend to progress in their jobs are people who have the required energy to be able to multi-task effectively and handle different projects simultaneously.

No Confidence.

If you have no confidence it yourself and it shows, you tend to affect the way that other people see you as well. This lack of confidence also affect your abilities to stick to goals, handle projects and the ability to do what you have to do as well.

No Intimacy.

People who find themselves in the conditions of low self-esteem also find it hard to get intimate or connect on a personal level to people around them. Close relationships on a professional level are necessary to get ahead in the workplace.

Fear of the Unknown.

People with low self-esteem tend to be scared of people they do not know and certain factors that they are unaware of. Such people are often afraid of meeting new people or trying new things. Anything that gets them out of their comfort zone and gives them a fear of rejection will be avoided.

Failure to Take Responsibility.

People with a low sense of self-esteem find it hard to take any form of criticism whatsoever and are always blaming others for their failure. Such people also lack the strength to tackle problems as they come up and the strength to do what needs to be done.

Changing Jobs Frequently.

People with low self-esteem find it hard to get promoted because they always tend to leave a company before any chance of promotion comes up. They are always restless in one job and never hang around long enough to make the required impression on other people who can further their careers.

If you have a low sense of self-esteem you may find it quite convenient to blame a whole lot of people for your troubles. People will often do anything from complaining about the way they were brought up to blaming other people around them. However when it comes to the reality of the situation, the only people that affect how we see ourselves is us. Ask yourself if you’re the person doing the putting down by asking these questions:

What is My Sense of Self-Value?

How much time do you spend on taking care of yourself? Do you eat the right meals and exercise regularly? Do you visit your doctors at the right time or do you neglect to take care of yourself and fail to do things that add value to your life?

Is Intimacy a Problem?

When you have a mind that feels you don’t deserve to have happiness or that you don’t deserve to be loved by others, you have a problem. People who shy away from people around them and fail to truly connect with others on a really intimate level are in the low self-esteem category. Find the time to discuss issues that other people talks about and share the intimate needs and dreams that you have with others.

Is Putting Yourself Down a Regular Activity?

With enough people around ready to kill your spirit and your sense of self-worth, it’s a pretty dumb move to keep doing it yourself. If you’re harder on yourself than other people are on you then you have a problem. If you expect more of yourself than you expect of other people then you may have a similar problem. Saying and thinking negatively about yourself also fall into this category.

Too Busy for Yourself and Others?

If you’re always too busy to deal with the problems of your job and with the problems of people around you, you may be killing yourself with low self-esteem. Take some time and consider your problems and what you need personally and emotionally.

Is Happiness a Problem for You?

If you hate where you are now and desire a whole lot more, it might be a reflection of an inclination towards low self-esteem. If you desire everything else that everyone else has and you’re not satisfied with all that you have, it might be indicative of low self-esteem problems.

Do You Take Care of Yourself?

If you neglect to take care of yourself and your clothing because you regularly feel that you don’t deserve to look good then you have a problem.

Depending on the number of “yes” answers you’ve given to the problems above, you may be suffering from a huge sense of low self-esteem. In order to remedy these problems you should take a closer look at yourself and your life and resolve these issues. Self-esteem is not a disease that cannot be cured. Take a serious look at your life and define solutions for yourself.

In everything in life that we do, self-esteem is crucial. Self-esteem makes people feel better about whom they are and provides these same people with the strength to do new things. With the right amount of self-esteem we believe in ourselves and our abilities and have the capacity to do the right things even when confronted with different circumstances. Self-esteem is essential for us to be able to handle the curveballs that life hands us with a positive understanding. Different circumstances can occur where we start to lose confidence in our abilities and stay in the midst of people who are killjoys who see nothing good in life. Hanging around people who are constantly negative can lead to a situation where we become negative ourselves. With these risks evident special care should be taken to avoid such individuals and their lifestyles.

Health and self-esteem also go hand-in-hand. Overweight people often spend the time thinking about of the bad things about themselves and forget all the good things they’re able to do. Hormones sometimes make us overreact and remain frustrated over the simplest of issues. Some things can be changed while others remain permanent, if something is bothering you and the circumstances can be altered then you can change what needs to be changed. If this isn’t the case then you have to learn to cope with what you dislike and see what joys you can derive.

Different things can affect the way you appear and feel regularly. Teenagers are often affected by a terrible sense of low self-esteem when they’re faced with pimples and acne. The irony is that the situation can be easily avoided simply by cutting down on their intake of sugary things.

With adults on the other hand, sluggishness tends to come when they haven’t had proper food to eat. Exhaustion and illness have never been keys to personal well-being and we feel terrible when we seem exhausted and ill most of the time. By building up your body you can easily get rid of this ill-feeling and start to feel a whole lot better about yourself. By eating well and getting plenty of rest and exercise, you tend to look better, feel better and see life through a whole new set of eyes. A fit body works a whole lot better and gives you the required energy to do whatever it is that you feel needs doing.

Self-esteem is something that can always change and it isn’t a bad idea to get rid of your fears now and get into that better body and a better life. By taking good care of your physical self. You open the door to taking better care of your mental and emotional self as well.

Self-esteem has a lot of definitions but essentially what all these definitions seem to agree on is that a high sense of self-esteem imbues us with the confidence and knowledge that we are capable of handling whatever we face in life. High self-esteem is related in a great depth to feelings of self-worth as well as a deeper understanding of our abilities and strengths. A person with a high degree of self-esteem is one that is confident with their abilities and can handle stress and other related problems effectively. These people can get out of any rut quickly and are quick to face challenges and solve the problems that life presents them with.Low self-esteem sufferers on the other hand suffer from something else. They often have a very negative way of looking at life and their person, they shy away from anything new and unknown because they feel they lack the strength to overcome any new challenges. They spend a lot of their energy creating false images and worry a lot and are overtly bothered by criticism.

Self-esteem is largely related to how we feel about what we can do and who we are. It can affect everything from our attitudes in life to our drive to succeed and how we relate with other people around us. Self-esteem start when we are young and carries on with us till we reach old age.

When we are young and try to succeed at various endeavors whether these endeavors are academic or otherwise, constant criticism may lead to a sense of low self-esteem, praise on the other hand whether these children succeed or not is often always related to a higher sense of self-esteem. Parents should be aware of this whenever they scold their children or deal with them in any way. A healthy sense of self-esteem in a child is the responsibility of the parents to foster and engender.

Self-esteem tends to vary in different degrees as we grow older in life and overcome newer obstacles. Teenagers are often prone to a higher degree of fluctuation in their sense of self-esteem than anyone else. These teenagers worry about their bodies, the world in general and their personalities as well. They will often try to establish their identities and cope with the harsh realities of life.Adults as well tend to experience different periods where they suffer from a sense of low self-esteem especially with different problems and situations they are incapable of surmounting. Some of these problems come with the birth of a new child and their inability to understand what this phase of life entails. In such challenges it is necessary to accept your limitations and seek help where necessary.

An overt sense of self-esteem can lead to arrogance on the part of the person with such issues. These people are often the ones who believe they are never wrong and everyone else is. People who suffer from low self esteem often have problems relating to challenges in life and tend to find themselves rooted in unsatisfactory jobs or relationships because they lack it within themselves to move on in life.

In order to be all that you can be and become a better moiré functional person, you have to take a look at your personal situation and remedy any areas where you feel you may be lacking in terms of self-esteem.

Most of the times, regardless of what you try you often find it difficult to raise your level of self –esteem alone. Negative thoughts start to creep into your mind and tend to affect a lot of things about you such as the way you see life and yourself in general. If you’ve reached this stage it may be time to opt for the experts.

Personal Counseling and Therapy:

People who are skilled counselors as well as therapists have been trained by the right people to see their lives in a better light. Talking with someone who doesn’t know you on a personal level can make you see things from an entirely different angle. Real therapists understand how to find out the real issues and identify the root cause of what is really bothering you. People skilled in this field are able to understand your negative attitudes and will give you the required strength to find the positive things about yourself and shed the negativity.

Self Help Seminars/Tapes & Books:

Most people don’t really know that their sense of low self-esteem isn’t as deeply rooted as they think. All they really have to do is understand how to how to seem themselves much more positively. This can easily be achieved by listening to the necessary motivational and improvement tapes and reading books that tell you what exactly is wrong with you and how to deal with it. You can also attend seminars and listen to motivational speakers as well. These people can easily help you deal with moderate self-esteem issues.

Hypnotherapy

This method usually requires the use of words and suggestions to an individual while they are under a state of hypnosis. Certain suggestions which are made during hypnosis can be used to alter the nervous system beneficially and alleviate emotionally related self-esteem problems.

Medical Treatments and Tests

Sometimes people suddenly develop low self-esteem issues for no reason at all and this rarely has anything to do with emotional or mental issues. These issues are usually as a result of certain physical problems that we might not even really be aware of. Some self-esteem problems may result after certain traumatic situations or life changing events like medical amputations. Sometimes it is due to factors due to certain hormone levels or other medically related issues. Prior to starting any treatment for issues that border on self-esteem you should make sure that you get yourself examined to get rid of any causes that may be physically responsible for your situation.

It is clearly evident that real options are available to people who need one form of help or the other in order to regain the necessary level of self-esteem they require. Find a solution that easily works for you so you can feel a whole lot better about yourself and live the life you want to lead.

Heightened cases of low self-esteem may affect the ability of children and teenagers to avoid harmful influences such as drugs, sex and alcohol. A higher level of self-esteem on the other hand can help children find the necessary courage to shun peer pressure and remain steadfast with the right beliefs and behavior. With the right amount of self-esteem people develop an improved sense of self-belief and the feeling that they can achieve what they want to achieve. These are traits that any parent would want their children to have.

Despite this fact too many teenagers suffer from low self-esteem and self-confidence related problems. Different changes in their bodies and their minds can hamper the way they feel about themselves and lead them to make decisions they may regret later on in life.

As a parent these are some of the cues that may be necessary to help you understand if your children are developing any self-esteem related issues.

Change in Appearance. If a child has always been previously paying attention to their appearance and suddenly seeks to neglect the way they dress and look, it may be an onset of a case of low self-esteem.

Extreme Case for Perfection. Any unnatural exertion on the part of a child to achieve perfection may be as a result of low self-esteem. A child who studys hard is one thing but an unnatural exertion towards the achievement of perfection is another thing entirely. If your child also finds coping with criticism difficult then there may be trouble as well.

Fear of Trying Something New. Children always want to constantly try new things and have new experiences. Any child who always runs away from trying any new activity may lack the self-confidence and belief in their abilities.

Belittling Others and Themselves. Lack of self-esteem in a child will lead to a child often belittling themselves and others even when they achieve something. Children should be able to accept the challenges of life and cope with them effectively.

If you see any of these symptoms in your own children you can easily take steps to prevent them and take these steps to help your children overcome these problems.

Talk Carefully. Don’t criticize children unnecessarily and offer the right amounts of praise where necessary.

Be Positive. A positive influence usually helps when you’re around children. If you have a positive outlook on life, it will affect the behavior of your children in turn as they will seek to emulate you.

Show Affection. The necessary amounts of hugs and commendation will make your children feel accepted and welcome.
